Coastal Creamery Milk
First and foremost, Coastal Creamery milk is the best-tasting and freshest product available. It is bottled at our "family" farm in North Haverhill, New Hampshire and is delivered to your door in environmentally safe, reusable glass bottles.
There are many factors that impact the quality of milk including, the quality of the cow feed, the proper washing and drying of the cows, and the sanitization of the milking equipment. We take special care in all aspects of this process because our family's reputation depends on it.
At Coastal Creamery, we still do things the old-fashioned way. From Vat Pasteurization, to glass bottles, we take every step to ensure that our product is the freshest and purest available.
Of course, doing things the old-fashioned way means that our herd is NOT injected with synthetic hormones. Since 100% of our milk comes from our own cows, we can guarantee that 100% of our milk is free of synthetic growth hormones.
Hormones
100% of our milk comes from our own herd of happy, healthy cows. We guarantee that our cows are NOT injected with the SYNTHETIC GROWTH HORMONES used by some dairies to stimulate milk production. Special care is taken every step of the way - from the birth of the calf to the delivery of our milk to your door - we ensure that you receive the finest product available. Our reputation depends upon it.
Pasteurization
Pasteurization involves heating milk to kill bacteria. Nearly all milk sold in industrialized countries is pasteurized. Most milk is pasteurized using the Flash Pasteurization Method, which is accomplished by heating the milk to 161° F for 15 seconds and then quickly cooling it.
We prefer the old-fashioned VAT PASTEURIZATION METHOD. We heat our milk to 145° F for 30 minutes. This gives the milk the smooth sweet taste of yesteryear. It takes more time and effort but we feel it's worth it.
Hatchland Farms Milk
Home of "Wicked Good" milk
Hatchland Farm has grown from the dreams of a 13 year old boy raising his first calf to a dairy farm with more than 400 cows and a bottling plant that processes the milk produced by those cows. Howard Hatch, the owner and head of the business, has managed the growth of Hatchland from a small dairy herd in 1958 to the operation of today. In 1992 Howard started bottling his milk in a section of a truck garage on Benton Rd in North Haverhill and in 2004 built a modern bottling plant next to the milking facilities on Clough Rd. Preston Hatch and Kristen May, Howard's son and daughter, as employees and partners in the business, play a major role in the day to day operations of the farm. Dave May, Kristen's husband, delivers the milk on long distance routes and Preston's children work at Hatchland when they can. Howard's brother and sister-in-law, Rick and Rita Hatch, manage the bottling part of the operation.
The Production Side
Hatchland has more than 500 milking cows and more than 300 heifers and calves. The cows are milked twice a day in a double 8 herringbone milking parlor. When the cows are milked the priority is on cleanliness to inure that the milk sent to the bottling plant is of the highest quality. The nearly 26 tons of feed that the cows consume each day consists of mostly home grown alphalfa haylage, grass haylage, dry hay and corn silage. A purchase grain mix of high quality ingredients is also used to complete the energy, protein, vitamin and mineral needs of the cows. Artificial hormones are not used and no animal byproducts are fed to the cows at Hatchland. A comfortable home, healthy food for the cows and proper milking procedures are the first steps in the production of high quality and great tasting milk.
The Finishing Touch
The "Wicked Good" milk products produced at Hatchland are bottled in our own plant right here on the farm. Our milk goes directly from the cow to the bottling plant and most of the time is bottled within a day. Our method of pasteurization takes more time, but the lower temperature use when vat pasteurizing doesn't change the natural flavor of the milk as much as higher temperature pasteurizing does. This insures that the great flavor is not altered by the process. The secret to our great tasting chocolate milk is using the highest quality ingredients, our already great tasting milk and bottling it the Hatchland way.
